Different Garment Sample Types & Characteristics:

In Garment/Apparel sector different sample should be made before Production as well pull out from production to ensure bulk production garment should fulfill all required parameter which asked by Buyer. Here I am discussing the major sample types & Characteristics:

Here are Different Garment sample Types :

Proto Sample:

Initial sample just to see the capabilities of the Factory whether can make such sample or not.

Sample Characteristics:

1. Fabric (preferably same content and construction but may not be of the same color)
2. Accessories (Available but if similar is better).
3. Embroidery (In actual design, thread color may available. Embroidery size & placement should be correct)
4. Printing (In the actual design with same size quality/type of print but color may available
5. Attachment of Value Added Items/Ornamentation (may be simulated with like items)
6. Washing (If fabric construction and contents are actual then exact washing may be done to see the effect of high/low, abrasion, hand-feel, softness )
7.  Folding & packing (not necessary).

Fit Sample:

These Samples used to Fitted to Dummy for Checking is this Fittings well or not

Sample Characteristics:

1. Fabric (Should be of same content and Constriction, color may available)
2. Accessories (Available but if similar is better)
3. Embroidery (Just in same design & size & position, may not be in the same color)
4. Printing (This sample fitted to the dummy that’s why all the measurements & position gets the first priority construction but may not be of the same color)
5. Attachment of Value Added Items/Ornamentation ( may be simulated with like items)
6. Washing (Required washing to be done to see the effect of high/low, abrasion, hand-feel, softness
7. Folding & packing (not necessary).

Size Set Sample:

When initially a sample is made then usually the middle size is considered.

But after confirmation of all measurement and fitting details then the garment is graded for all the sizes. For smaller size grading-down is carried out and for upper sizes grading- up is done. With this graded measurement, all sizes of garments are made and their fitting accuracy is evaluated. Without approval of complete size, cannot proceed for bulk production as such this is also very important and to be made and submitted on time to start bulk production as per scheduled date.

Sample Characteristics:

1. Fabric (Should be similar content and Constriction, Color may available)
2. Embroidery (Actual).
3. Printing (All actual).
4. Attachment of Value Added Items/Ornamentation (Actual).
5. Washing (Actual with all effect of high/low, abrasion, hand-feel, softness
6. in acceptable quality). Finishing and folding (As instructed by Buyer).
7. Finishing Accessories (As Instructed by Buyer).
8. Folding & packing (As instructed by Buyer).

Salesman Sample.

These are the samples need to Ship directly to to Buyer to support him in

doing campaign for marketing the item. These are displayed in the

chain store/ retail shop well ahead of the bulk quantity received by the store.

Sample Characteristics:

1. Fabric (Actual)
2. Accessories (All actual).
3. .Embroidery (Actual)
4. Printing (All actual)
5. Attachment of Value Added Items/Ornamentation ( Actual).
6. Washing (Actual with all affect of high/low, abrasion, Hand-feel, softness in acceptable quality)
7. Finishing and folding (As instructed by Buyer)
8. Finishing Accessories (As Instructed by Buyer)
9. Packing (As instructed by Buyer)

Photo Shoot Sample:

Sometime Buyer wants to do the advertisement with the garments well ahead of getting the same in the store/market and  accordingly they ask for nicely stitched garments (of same fabric and with all attachments and accessories). The photo of the garments are taken putting on the same by some  models and the same is displayed in the retail shop or advertisement is done on papers, magazines, brochures etc to allure and attract the customers.

Sample Characteristics:

1. Fabric (Actual).
2. Accessories (Which are visible on wearing must be actual but any labels/accessories not visible
3. on wearing may not be mandatory to attach).
4.  Embroidery (Actual).
5. Printing (All actual).
6. Attachment of Value Added Items/ornamentation (Actual).
7. Washing (Actual with all affect of high/low effect)
8. Finishing and folding (As instructed by Buyer).
9. Finishing Accessories (As Instructed by Buyer).
10. Packing (As instructed by Buyer).

Top of the Product (TOP) Sample:

These are the sample some Buyer ask from the vendor to see his best performance as such the best sample with taking highest care of everything is sent to Buyer. Buyers keep such sample as their reference for future business.

Sample Characteristics:

3. Embroidery (Actual)
4. Printing (All actual)
5. Attachment of Value Added Items/Ornamentation (Actual)

Pre-Production (P.P) Sample:

These are also very important sample as without approval of such sample production cannot be started. Nothing to be confused with the Pre-Production sample may have to be all colors of fabric also as different color may have different types of shrinkage and cross-staining character which may have to treat with special care.

Sealed Sample (Red-Sealed / Yellow-Sealed):

Different Buyer has different types of security seal which they attach with the garments for checking. This seal is given as approval of styling, measurement, placement of printing and embroidery and confirmation of all stitching details. This sample has to be handled with care so that the seal is not broken. When the Buying QC will come inspecting the garments then they will ask for Sealed Sample and at that time if find the seal is tempered or broken then they may refuse to conduct the inspection. Anybody handling this sample must understand the importance of this sample.

7. Washing (Actual with all affect of

11. Packing (As instructed by Buyer).

Bulk Production Sample:

These are the samples pulled from the bulk production to represent the bulk production goods quality & all other standards these made on production. These usually cover all sizes and all colors. Before shipped goods to the buyer may need production sample approval from buyer End.

1. Fabric (Same as bulk production)
2. Accessories (Same as bulk production)
3. Embroidery (Same as bulk production)
4. Printing (Same as bulk production)
5. Attachment of Value Added Items/Ornamentation (Same as bulk production)
6. Washing (As production quality) Finishing and folding (Same as bulk production)
7. Finishing Accessories (Same as bulk production)
8. Packing (As instructed by Buyer)

Shipment Sample.

Shipment sample is mandatory requirements of buyers which need to send to buyer directly.Shipment sample requirements in different sizes & colors . Shipment sample should be followed the same quality standard which bulk shipment to buyer forwarder

Sample Characteristics:

2. Accessories (Same as bulk shipment)
3. Embroidery (Same as bulk shipment)
4. Printing (Same as bulk shipment)
